INT. BOB'S PAWNSHOP - BACK ROOM - NIGHT
May is seated in her hiding place. She looks at some of the
pawned items. She looks at the scary looking stuffed wolf.
MAY
What a creepy place.
(sighs)
And when has any of Megan's plans
worked the first time around?
(shakes head)
I'm so going to die back here.
EXT. BEHIND BOB'S PAWNSHOP - NIGHT
Brianna, seated among some bushes, watches. She hears
FOOTSTEPS IN CREEK ROCKS moving toward her.
BRIANNA
(whispering)
Sounds like two sets of
footsteps...
(ducks down)
OK. OK. I'm not afraid. I'm not
afraid. Oh, who am I kidding?
Brianna peeks over the grass. A shadow approaches in the
moonlight. She hears the SOUND OF FOOTSTEPS IN THE CREEK
ROCKS.
BRIANNA
(whispering to self)
Who is it?
Brianna sees a DEER walking toward her.
BRIANNA
It's a deer. I can just see the
headlines in the morning. Girl
mauled by rabid deer.
The deer moves closer to Brianna until it's nearly upon her.
Brianna is frightened. Suddenly the deer looks around then
bolts and runs into the woods on the far side of the creek.
Brianna looks over the grass. The sound of NEW FOOTSTEPS
MOVE TOWARD HER.
BRIANNA
(whispering to self)
Someone else is coming.
Two shadowy figures approach. Brianna hides.
INT. BOB'S PAWNSHOP - FRONT ROOM - NIGHT
SOFT BLUE GLOW AROUND MEGAN FOR CROWN EFFECT.
Megan watches the men approaching. Bob has keys, phone and
gun in hands.
MEGAN
They're coming. Do you have your
key to unlock the door with?
BOB
(holds key up)
Right here.
MEGAN
You have your cordless phone?
BOB
(phone in hand)
Got it.
MEGAN
Tell the police where they parked
their car. Once I zap you outside
you won't see me again tonight.
MEGAN'S VISION - BLUE GLOW AROUND IMAGE
ABDUL & GILMORE CUT THE FENCE behind the pawn shop.
May is hiding under bench.
MEGAN (O.S.)
(May)
They're coming. Are you ready?
MAY
Megan, I swear if you let me die
back here I'll haunt you for the
rest of your life.
Megan zooms in on Brianna peeking over the tall grass at the
men as they pull the fence back and crawl through.
MEGAN (O.S.)
You ready, Brianna?
BRIANNA
(whispering)
Megan? Is that you?
MEGAN (O.S.)
You have the most important job of
all. Just make sure you switch the
gas for the water.
EXT. BEHIND BOB'S PAWNSHOP - NIGHT
Brianna watches the men go through the fence to the back door
of the pawnshop. She sees the red gas can beside the fence.
She hurries toward the place where the men cut the hole in
the fence. She's ready to make her move when the men cut the
back padlock from the door then one of them starts back
toward the can. Brianna ducks behind a tree and watches the
man take the can of gas toward the back pawnshop door.
Horrified Brianna looks at the can in her hand.
BRIANNA
(gasping, frantic)
I didn't get to switch the cans!
INT. BOB'S PAWNSHOP - BACK ROOM - NIGHT
In the back room May hides among the boxes. The door opens.
She watches the men enter, move toward the front of the room
and disappear behind some shelves. Cautiously she gets up,
closes then locks the big door locking herself inside. Now
she smells a hint of gas in the air.
MAY
(whispering)
That doesn't smell like water.
She looks at the lock she has placed on the back door.
MAY
(whispering)
I just locked myself inside!
She ducks back into her hiding place.
MAY
(frightened, whispering)
Brianna didn't get to switch the
cans. Megan, please don't let me
down.
In the hallway that separates the front room from the back,
Abdul and Gilmore pause upon seeing Bob's big old safe.
ABDUL
(whispering)
Well what do we have here?...
(looks at Gilmore)
Get the old man. He can open this
safe.
BOB (O.S.)
(calling)
Hey! Who's back there?
ABDUL
(yelling)
He's up front. You gas the place
I'll grab the old man.
There's a FLASH OF BLUE LIGHT THROUGH THE DOORWAY. Gilmore
begins flinging gas on the shelves. Abdul runs through the
doorway into the front of the pawnshop.
INT. BOB'S PAWNSHOP - FRONT ROOM - NIGHT
Abdul searches for Bob.
ABDUL
Where'd he go?
(looking around)
The old man's not here!
EXT. BOB'S PAWNSHOP - NIGHT
LIGHT BLUE GLOWING MEGAN FOR CROWN EFFECT
Bob and Megan stand outside at the side of the pawnshop away
from the road. Bob talks to the police on his phone.
BOB
That's what I said. Two men broke
into my pawnshop and they're still
in there!
Megan moves further toward the back of the pawnshop away from
the road. She watches the back room looking for some chance
to get in and bring May out.
INT. BOB'S PAWNSHOP - BACK ROOM - NIGHT
May hides among the boxes terrified. Gilmore moves past her.
EXT. BOB'S PAWNSHOP - NIGHT
LIGHT BLUE GLOWING MEGAN.
MEGAN
(frantic)
Gilmore's back there. He's too
close. I can't get in to get May.
INT. BOB'S PAWNSHOP - BACK ROOM - NIGHT
Gilmore finishes slinging gas on the shelves. He takes out a
rag and lighter. In a moment Abdul joins him.
ABDUL
Some how the old man got away
without a trace. Torch this place
and let's get out of here.
Abdul goes toward the back door. Gilmore lights the rag then
tosses it onto the gas. Gas goes up with a SWISHING SOUND.
Abdul discovers the door is locked. He hits the door, kicks
it. Glances at the fire thinking of running out the front
door but the fire has them cut off from the front of the
building.
ABDUL
(frantic)
Who locked the back door?
GILMORE
I didn't lock it!
ABDUL
There has to be someone else in
here.
The two begin to search and find May hiding. Gilmore drags
May out by the leg.
GILMORE
Got you! Where's the key to that
lock?
MAY
(frightened)
I don't have it!
All three hunker near the floor. Abdul grabs May by the neck
pulling her up close to him.
ABDUL
(frantic)
You know if you don't give us that
key you will die in here with us!
MAY
(coughing)
Bob has all the keys!
Suddenly a LARGE WOLF with BRILLIANT YELLOW GLOWING EYES runs
out of the smoke.
ABDUL
(terrified)
It's a devil dog!
Abdul releases May then screaming lunges at the locked door.
Gilmore kicks his way back into the place where May had been
hiding. May lying on floor coughing sees the LARGE WOLF WITH
THE YELLOW GLOWING EYES standing beside her. Suddenly it
lunges at Gilmore grabbing him by the leg.
He SCREAMS in pain. It drags him from under the counter. Then
it lunges at Abdul grabbing him by the leg. He SCREAMS. The
wolf drags him toward the middle of the room, tearing his
pants and biting him. The two men frantically crawl toward
the front of the room on their hands and knees. The wolf
returns to May. May is frightened but there's something about
the YELLOW GLOWING EYES that is familiar.
MAY
(coughing)
Megan?
The WOLF MORPHS INTO MEGAN on her hands and knees. SOFT
YELLOW GLOWING MEGAN quickly pulls the crown off. YELLOW GLOW
SUBSIDES. Megan exchanges the yellow jewel for the blue one.
SIRENS CAN BE HEARD APPROACHING. Megan puts the crown on and
grabs May's hand. LIGHT BLUE GLOW MOVES OVER THEM. May eyes
the bed near the front of the back room.
MEGAN
(coughing)
Time to get out of here, May.
MAY
You can't let this place burn. It's
the only home Bob has!
EXT. BEHIND BOB'S PAWNSHOP - NIGHT
Brianna watches from the back fence. Suddenly EVERY WINDOW IN
THE BACK OF THE BUILDING EXPLODES OUTWARD. THE FIRE IS BLOWN
OUT. SMOKE ROLLS FROM THE WINDOWS AND CEILING VENT. Brianna
begins to cry.
BRIANNA
It's all my fault.
(sobbing)
I didn't get the cans switched. Now
May is gone.
BLUE LIGHT APPEARS BEHIND HER BRINGING MAY AND MEGAN but
Brianna does not notice.
MAY
Brianna?
BRIANNA
(sobbing)
I can still hear her voice calling
to me. I'm so sorry, May... It's
all my fault.
MAY
Brianna?
BRIANNA
I'm so sorry, it's all my fault.
(puts her arms around May)
And now you're dead...
(realizing)
You're... You're alive!
(excited)
You're alive, and...
(sees Megan)
And you're alive too!
Brianna grabs May in a bear hug.
MAY
OK! OK! I'm alive!
BRIANNA
You're alive and you smell like
smoke.
May pries Brianna loose. Brianna points at the building.
BRIANNA
I thought you were inside the
building when it blew up!
MAY
We were.
BRIANNA
But how?
MAY
Megan blew the fire out.
EXT. BOB'S PAWNSHOP - NIGHT
Front of building. SIRENS OF FIRE TRUCKS and police
approaching. Crazy Bob stands in front of his pawnshop with
his gun in one hand and phone in the other. Officer Smith
pulls up in front of the building. FLASHING POLICE LIGHTS.
Second patrol car pulls in as Officer Smith gets out of car.
Through the windows Abdul and Gilmore beat on door, beg and
plead to be let out of the building.
ABDUL
There's a demon wolf back there!
Get us out of here!
AMBULANCE pulls into the parking lot followed by a FIRE
TRUCK. Officers Smith and Ragsdale observe the men through
the iron bar covered front door of the pawnshop. Officer
Smith tries the door. Finding it locked, he motions for Bob
to open the door. Ragsdale with gun drawn covers the
subjects.
OFFICER RAGSDALE
(yelling)
On the floor, face down and hands
where I can see them!
Subjects take position on the floor. Bob opens door then
steps away. Quickly Smith moves in and searches the two men.
He finds Abdul has a GUN and a KNIFE. He takes them from him.
Pulls Abdul's arms back then cuffs him. Same thing for
Gilmore except Gilmore is armed only with the LIGHTER and a
POCKET KNIFE. Officers lead the men outside. FIREMEN RUN
INTO THE PAWNSHOP.
ABDUL
There's a devil wolf in there, I
tell you! Glowing yellow eyes. Just
look what it did to me!
Officers now joined by PARAMEDICS look at the men's legs, see
the BITE MARKS AND TORN TROUSERS.
OFFICER SMITH
(Bob)
Do you have a demon dog in there
with yellow eyes?
BOB
I've got a mounted wolf in the
back... Go see for yourself.
Fireman comes back out of pawnshop.
OFFICER SMITH
(fireman)
Did you see any devil wolves in
there with glowing yellow eyes?
FIREMAN
I saw a mounted wolf in the back.
OFFICER SMITH
(points at Abdul's leg)
No live ones that could do that to
a man?
Fireman shakes head then walks toward his fire truck. TWO
EMT'S inspect Abdul's bites.
EMT 1
Those are some deep bites. He's
going to need some stitches.
Ragsdale comes out of the building carrying the mounted wolf.
OFFICER RAGSDALE
Hey, look! I found the demon wolf!
Second EMT looks at the bite marks on Abdul's leg.
EMT 2
This could be one of those X-files.
INT. MEGAN'S ROOM - NIGHT
IN A BLUE GLOW the threesome watch viewpoint the ordeal in
front of the pawnshop. Megan removes crown. GLOW SUBSIDES.
MEGAN
Whew! Boy do I have a bad case of
dog mouth.
Megan leaves the room. Suddenly THE TV COMES ON. PAYAH,
DRESSED LIKE A FIREMAN, APPEARS ON BED leaning against
pillows at the headboard. Brianna notices PAYAH. Her mouth
drops open. She slaps a hand over her mouth and points at
Payah with the other.
BRIANNA
There's a man on the bed. He just
appeared out of thin air!
MAY
That's not a man, that's Payah.
BRIANNA
Looks like a man.
Megan returns with a glass of water. Eyes Payah on the bed.
Grins and shakes her head.
MAY
(Megan)
I hope you don't get rabies from
biting that guy.
MEGAN
(sarcastically)
Thanks, now I really feel better.
BRIANNA
You bit someone?
MAY
She sure did. She was the wolf with
the glowing yellow eyes.
Megan picks up the crown then changes crystals blue to
yellow. She puts the crown on. YELLOW GLOW MOVES OVER HER.
MEGAN
I'll show her. Get a grip on
Brianna.
May puts an arm around Brianna as MEGAN TRANSFORMS INTO THE
WOLF before their eyes. Brianna starts to scream but May
slaps a hand over her mouth.
MAY
No screaming.
MEGAN TRANSFORMS BACK then stands and removes the crown.
Brianna pulls May's hand from her mouth.
BRIANNA
(astounded)
That's the most amazing thing I
ever saw!
Brianna looks back at PAYAH NOW DRESSED IN AN ANIMAL CONTROL
UNIFORM. Brianna's mouth drops open again. She points at
Payah then looks at Megan and May.
MAY
(Megan)
Do you think they will nab Banister
this time?
Megan pulls the original hit list from her pocket.
MEGAN
I don't know.
MAY
Didn't you give them the original
list? The one that has Banister's
fingerprints on it.
MEGAN
Couldn't, May. It also has our
fingerprints on it.
Discouraged, May flops into seated position on bed.
MEGAN
It's all right. We saved Bob and he
has a copy of the list. If they
don't get Banister this time we
will try again.
INT. HALLWAY - MORNING
6:00 am. Gary walks up to Megan's door and pounds on it as
usual. This time the door opens. Megan is standing there
dressed and wide awake.
GARY
(boastful, smiling)
Well, now. If I hadn't taught my
little sis to get up in the morning
I've failed my mission.
MEGAN
Come here, Gary. I have some
questions for you.
INT. MEGAN'S ROOM - MORNING
Gary enters Megan's room.
GARY
What can big bro do for his little
sis this morning?
MEGAN
I heard you guys go out to the
Bates Mansion in the middle of the
night. What's that about?
GARY
(surprised)
Who told you that?
MEGAN
What's it about, Gary? Come on, you
can tell me.
GARY
It's an initiation thing. A kind of
right of passage for the ball team.
MEGAN
Something to prove their courage?
GARY
(boldly)
Yeah, that's what it's about.
Nothing some wimpy girl could do.
(very theatrical)
And tonight's the night.
(first finger in the air)
At the stroke of midnight tonight
we send them in two by two into the
belly of the beast with nothing but
a camera and a flashlight.
(deep voice)
Into the bloody room!
MEGAN
The room where Mr. Bates's body was
found?
GARY
Precisely!
Gary grabs Megan in headlock and musses her hair.
GARY
It's cause I love ya, sis.
Gary moves to the door, looks back.
GARY
And if you tell anyone about
this...
Gary shakes his finger at Megan then leaves. Megan smiles,
turns and looks at Payah on her bed watching TV. Megan
glances at the TV set then shakes her head and turns it off.
MEGAN
I've got a plan but I'm going to
need your help.
EXT. BATES MANSION - NIGHT
THE MANSION APPEARS LARGE AND OMINOUS. It's midnight. A car
waits at the front gate. Gary and THREE OTHER BOYS wait at
the gate for the first two members to return.
SCREAMS are heard coming from the house, GROWING LOUDER until
the FRONT DOOR FLIES OPEN and TWO SCREAMING BOYS come running
then falling and running again toward the gate.
BILL
(screaming)
That place is really haunted!
Gary grabs the boy and another boy grabs the other one. The
two frightened lads stare at the house.
JUSTIN
(yelling, pointing at
house)
He's not kidding, that place really
is haunted!
BILL
(frightened)
The door slammed shut! The cross
floated around the room! It was
terrible I tell you! Just terrible!
JUSTIN
(frightened)
Then something grabbed me by the
leg!
GARY
(nods at the others)
Two wimpy girl signs right here!
(points at two boys)
JUSTIN
(sees signs, pleading)
No, Gary, you can't do this to us.
That place really is haunted!
Two other boys TAPE A SIGN THAT READS "WIMPY GIRL" to each of
the boy's backs.
GARY
(laughing)
I want you to know this is going on
your permanent record.
Gary turns to his partner.
GARY
It's our turn.
Gary and CARL walk toward the house flashlights in hand.
They walk up the steps, onto the porch then to the open door.
Gary smiles, nods head. They enter the house.
INT. BATES MANSION - NIGHT
Gary and the Carl walk slowly along the hallway toward the
foot of the stairs where the second hallway leads to the
right. On the left is the kitchen. The boys look into the
kitchen then into the dark hallway that leads to the bloody
room. Gary slaps Carl on the back.
GARY
What's the problem. Not scared, are
you?
CARL
(spooked)
Of course not.
GARY
(points the way)
Then you lead the way.
As they walk a BASEBALL SIZE SOFT BLUE GLOWING ORB APPEARS in
the hallway in front of them. They freeze in their tracks.
The ORB MOVES SLOWLY OVER THEIR HEADS. They watch the ORB
ENTER THE KITCHEN. Eyes widen. Now there's lights on in the
kitchen. There's a woman in an old style long dress in the
kitchen standing with her back to them. The kitchen looks
new, like it did back in 1947.
CARL
(whispers, frightened)
What is that?
GARY
(whispers)
Someone playing a trick on us.
CARL
(whispers)
Riiiiiight.
Gary takes a deep breath, gathers his courage and walks
slowly into the kitchen.
GARY
Who ever is trying to scare us, it
isn't working.
ANOTHER WOMAN APPEARS (older version of May) also in an OLD
STYLE LONG DRESS with THE LOOK OF DEATH ON HER FACE. In her
hands she holds a plate with some fried chicken on it. She
looks directly at them but VERY TRANCE LIKE.
MAY
Come on in here boys and have
something to eat with us.
CARL
(frightened)
She just appeared out of thin air,
Gary.
GARY
This has to be a trick.
Gary reaches out toward the first woman's back when she turns
around and looks right at him. It's an OLDER VERSION OF
MEGAN. She has a LONG SCAR ON HER FACE. AROUND HER EYES IS
BLACK LIKE DEATH, HER FACE IS SHADES OF GRAY. Gary steps
back. She has a piece of fried chicken in her hand. She
takes a bite. Suddenly the PIECE OF CHICKEN IN HER HAND HAS
MAGGOTS CRAWLING OUT OF it. She offers it to Gary.
GARY
(stumbles backward)
Ahhhhhhhhh!!!
Gary turns to run but hits Carl KNOCKING THEM BOTH TO THE
FLOOR. They get up and RUN SCREAMING.
EXT. BATES MANSION - NIGHT
Gary and Carl RUN OUT THE DOOR SCREAMING, falling and getting
up and running again. They reach the car, jump in, and slam
the door after them. The other boys watch in stunned
amazement. Looking back at the mansion they see THREE
GLOWING WHITE FORMS IN THE LIVING ROOM WINDOW.
LARRY
Let's get out of here!
INT. BATES MANSION - NIGHT
MEGAN, MAY, BRIANNA GLOWING SOFT WHITE FOR CROWN EFFECT
THE GIRLS ARE NOW DRESSED IN BLACK OUTFITS. The girls hold
hands standing at the living room windows laughing. They
watch the car leave at high speed. Brianna shoots video of
the departing vehicle.
MAY
That was kinda funny.
BRIANNA
And I got it on video.
(looks at Megan)
You don't think he recognized you
guys, do you?
Brianna glances toward the dining room door then back toward
Megan.
BRIANNA
Um, how did you say you did that
ghost effect?
MAY
Simple, we acted out the parts
earlier and Payah recorded it.
Then when the boys showed up Payah
played it back for them.
BRIANNA
Fantastic! That's got to be the
most amazing thing I ever saw!..
(thoughtful)
How much does Payah charge for
doing special effect work?
Megan smiles but then looks into the hallway. She releases
the other girls' hands. The WHITE GLOW SUBSIDES FROM MAY AND
BRIANNA.
MEGAN
Let's go check this scary place
out.
BRIANNA
Oh look, an old sofa!
MAY
Forget it.
BRIANNA
Why?
MAY
I already did that. Found a silver
dollar, a half dollar, and a man's
class ring from 1947.
BRIANNA
1947?
Megan leads the way down the hallway past the foot of the
stairs then looks into the long dark hallway. She pauses,
looks at her friends, then starts into the dark hallway.
BRIANNA
What if we see a ghost?
MAY
There's ghosts in here all right.
Megan and I saw one the other night
upstairs.
BRIANNA
You're kidding.
Megan stops at a doorway on the left. She looks back at the
girls behind her. She reaches for the doorknob. Turns the
handle then pushes the door. It OPENS WITH A SQUEAK. They
look into the room.
